Starting in 1980, International Fracture Mechanics Summer Schools (IFMASS) had been organized nine times, the last one “The Challenge of Materials and Weldments - Structural Integrity and Life Assessments”, Golden Sands, Black Sea, Bulgaria in 2005. Topical monographs were published in Serbian after first seven Schools under the School title, e.g. “Fracture Mechanics of Weldments” (IFMASS 3), “The Application of Fracture Mechanics to Life Estimation of Power Plant Components” (IFMASS 5), published also in English by EMAS. The IFMASS 8 monograph “From Fracture Mechanics to Structural Integrity Assessment” has been published in English - web site www.divk.org.yu The IFMASS 9 monograph is inder preparation and is expected to be published before IFMASS 10. The number of participants was 62 in the first School, up to 145 in IFMASS 5, and 107 in IFMASS 8. The IFMASS lecturers staff included impressive number of well known world experts, from: Bulgaria (D.Angelova, B.Sokolianski, S.Vodenitcharov); France (M.Bethmont, D.Francois, R.Labens, G. Pluvinage) Germany (P.Aganotović, W.Brocks, B.Dogan, H.Hoffmeister, T.Hollstein, B.Michel, K.H.Schwalbe, H.Weber, M.Zschau); Hungary (G.Lenkey. E.Czoboly, L.Toth); Poland (A.Javorski, A.Mazur, A.Neimitz, J.Orkis, M.Skorupa); Romania (D.Constatinescu, L.Marşavina); Russia (V.Ivanova, A.Kostjuk, A.Truhnij); Slovakia (I.Hrivnak); U.S.A. (P.Albrecht, A.Clark, R.deVit, A.Joshi, J.Joyce, H.McHenry, J.Landes, M.Ratwani, D.Read, T.Siewert, R.Stephens, M.Wnuk, S. Yukawa); U.K. (M.Burdekin, J.Radon); Ukraine (I.Orynyak, V.Troshchenko, V.Pivtorak, V.Kirjan); including many lecturers from former Yugoslavia. Two basic reasons to organize the Tenth International Fracture Mechanics Summer School (IFMASS 10) are: to continue with education of speicalists in structural integrity assessment methods for their better application;. to present new approaches in continuous monitoring of structures and development of softwares for extended use of computers.
